Treating Arthritis with Reiki

Treating Arthritis with Reiki

There are a few forms of arthritis but basically all relate to inflammation of a joint. It is recommended to avoid dairy products and animal fats.

Treat the joints with the 'sandwich' position, by placing one hand above and the other below the affected joint. Let the energy flow through the arms, legs and feet. Place one hand at the top of the shoulder area and the other on the wrist, then allow the energy to flow for a while.

Ask the client to lie on the stomach and place one hand on the upper leg where it joins the buttocks, and the other hand at the ankle, letting energy flow in the leg.

Lay one hand on the sole of each foot, with the fingertips covering the toes, this is good for treating the foot reflex zones of the whole body, or alternatively give your client a full body Reiki treatment.

Starting a Reiki Journey
In most instances, people choose a Reiki teacher by recommendation of a friend or acquaintance, however, being a spiritual practice, it is best to let your intuition guide you to meet the right teacher for you. You should feel comfortable in the presence of your teacher and have an open communication channel with him / her.
It is important to note the different approaches to teaching and to be able to exercise your right to free will and therefore freedom to choose your own beliefs and Truth. No-one should impose their views on you as 'Gospel Truth', you must be free to find your Truth without fear.
Our intuition is a fantastic tool to assist us with this quest to find the right teacher so it is best to use it. Do your homework and research until you are comfortable that you have found the right one. Have you ever heard that "When the student is ready the teacher appears?"

Hands-on Healing

Energy Healing

We all use our hands to heal whether we realize it or not. When we hug someone to reassure them, when we touch a child's injury to ease their pain, etc, these are all forms of energy healing because we are consciously channelling it through our caring and unconditional love for others when we are propelled to do so by our inner feelings. We have all experienced easing of pain when we have a headache and automatically raise our hands and hold the painful area and soon afterwards the pain eases a little.

In this instance we are using our stored energy banks which with time can be depleted causing additional discomfort and illness. When we are trained and attuned to use Reiki, the energy is channelled and passes through the practitioner and onto the client, all the while benefitting the practitioner as well as the client. All Reiki pratitioners feel a sense of calm and profound relaxation after a Reiki session on someone else.

The hands-on healing of Reiki is unique in the simplicity of learning the method. The Reiki energy is immediately accessed by the practitioner and the energy flows fast and strong from the first attunement. This energy is accessed instantly the moment the practitioner states the intent to use it.

Mantras

Mantras

A mantra consists of words or sounds which are repeated as a form of meditation and are particularly associated with Eastern spiritual practices.

One of the best known mantras is the principal mantra of Tibetan Buddhists, "Om mane padme hum".

Chanting a mantra is also the foundation of Transcendental Meditation, which is a very popular practice worldwide. It is the combination of the power of the word, the focus on the chant and the effect on the breathing that makes the mantra produce powerful transformations in the practitioner. With regular practice, it gives them spiritual insights and a sense of connection to the universe.

Reiki has its own mantras which are taught as the four symbols introduced at second and third degree levels. In Japanese they are known as Jumon, which translates as 'sound which invokes a very specific cosmic vibration'. These are also called Kotodama, which means 'words carrying spirit'.

If you prefer to chant the mantras then you may try the following exercise:

Find a space where you won't be disturbed. Work with one mantra at a time for a period of 3-6 months so you become familiar with its unique vibration and effect, but be aware that it takes patience to build up a practice of chanting and feel the inner vibration.

The use of sound meditation is most effective when your body is upright.

- Sit in the Seiza posture or upright on a chair.

- Place the palms of your hands on your knees to keep you relaxed. Place hands in Gassho if preferred.

- Breathe in through the nose, drawing the breath down into the Hara. On the out breath, speak the mantra clearly and correctly.

Attunements

Reiki Attunements
In Japanese Reiki, Dr Usui used a spiritual blessing, known as Reiju, when teaching his students.

In recent times, a ritual is used, which we call an attunement or spititual empowerment that passes through the teacher to the student, and activates the student's ability to draw in more energy and in this way become an effective channel for the universal life force or Reiki energy.

This process is different for all students but in all cases, it is the moment between life without Reiki and a spiritual rebirth. There is no doubt that an initiation into Reiki marks an awakening of the soul towards a more spiritual way of life and a prospective student is moved by intuition through his/her higher self to evolve spiritually. When the student is ready, the Master appears in his life.

An initiation is a powerful moment for the student and the teacher. As a student, if you feel nervous about the process, ask the teacher to explain before hand.
